A group of people walking down Greenwich Church Street, London

London is one of the largest, most multicultural cities in the world.  Around 9 million people live in the city, of whom over 72,000 live with a diagnosis of dementia; a number set to more than triple by 2060.  The city is a part of the World Health Organization’s Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities and launched a Dementia Friendly London campaign in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society in 2018.  Our project is based at the University of Greenwich, with work planned to take place across the southeast of London in the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley.  Greenwich is located on the banks of the river Thames and has a long maritime history and was once the site of the palaces of the Tudor kings and queens including Henry VIII.  Beyond Greenwich lie a number of smaller towns including Bexley Heath, Eltham and Welling that make up part of London’s commuter belt.  Just over 500,000 people living in the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley.
